Whisperings of THE ELIJAH throughout the underground have been hailing the arrival of the most powerful and transcendental live band of this age, and Small Town Records are proud to be releasing the UK five piece’s debut album, “I Loved I Hated I Destroyed I Created”, on 2 July.

The new single, ‘I Hated’, will be released on 28 May as a FREE download from the band’s facebook page, accompanied by the fully orchestral B side, ‘I Never Breathed In’, showcasing the huge diversity of this truly unique band.

Having racked up an impressive 57k  views,THE ELIJAH’s video to album track and current single “I Destroyed” has had a phenomenal response online. Check it out here:

Citing influences ranging from This Will Destroy You to Olafur Arnalds, THE ELIJAH entwine the atmospheric and progressive fundamentals of post-rock with intelligent orchestration and huge amounts of controlled experimentation. Determined to make a record that sounds like no other, The Elijah took to recording the album in an abandoned mansion in the Shropshire countryside, creating the tones and ambience with the natural reverb, resonance and atmosphere of the structure in place of digital effects. The result is a luscious and organic myriad of textures that are as overwhelmingly huge as they are subtle.

Album track listing:

1) In Misery
2) I Loved
3) In Fear
4) I Hated
5) In Regret
6) .
7) I Destroyed
8) ..
9) In Death
10) I Created

THE ELIJAH have lived on the road for the past year clocking up over 150 shows on tours with Hopes Die Last, Hands Like Houses, Liferuiner, The Eyes of a Traitor, The Bled and Closure in Moscow. Showing no sign of slowing, the band will be touring the UK and Europe this summer Legend in June, As Cities Burn in July and will soon announce a full touring schedule for autumn.

May Update

Wednesday May 16, 2012

Question: Why do Small Town always start their updates with “it’s been a while since we’ve written an update?” - well usually because we are too busy to write them, and just rely on quick fire updates on fb/tw to keep people in the loop, but also because things seem to move at such a quick fire speed. It doesn’t seem 2 minutes since I was finishing the chorus of “old lang syne” and now i’m digging out my sunglasses and speedos for the summer.

Anyway, enough of that, here is a quick fire run down of the latest band shenanigans.

Campus

Belgium’s finest metalcore export will unleish their EP “Empathy” on Small Town on the 28th May. Its only 4 tracks but I swear its enough to do some serious damage. Following their UK performance at Hit The Deck, the boys have confirmed they’ll be back in the UK for Hevy and also performing at various European festivals across the summer. Keep your eyes peeled for when they make the Calais - Dover hop and return to UK soil soon.

The Elijah

Having returned from their mamouth tour with Closure In Moscow, the T.E boys finally got round to confirming the details of their brand new album. Due out early July, the first single “I Hated” will be dropped with a brand new video, very soon. Keep a look out for more news and announcements. Aside from that, the boys are doing what they do best, and getting back out on the road with As Cities Burn and Small Town’s Violet.

Fei Comodo

It was a deeply saddening day in the Small Town camp when the Fei lads decided it was time to call it a day. Fei have been part of the family for a long time and we’ll miss them a lot. Their album, which is still not out (but on its way soon) “Behind The Bright Lights” is one of the best albums i’ve heard in a long time and deserves far more than its likely to get. Still, you can pick up a copy on their Pledge page.

The Hype Theory

Katy and her boys have just returned from touring their latest single “You’re Going Home Alone” with Adelaide and Franko and will now take some rest time before getting prepared to tour Japan and Australia in promotion of the “Glory Days” album. Did you see the video for YGHA? Essex at its finest, and spot the cameo appearances from SmallTownAlex and SmallTownPete!

Shadows Chasing Ghosts

My-oh-my will their new album turn some heads… expect big things from the SCG boys in the next few months as the follow up to 2010’s “The Golden Ratio” will hit shelves. They have a new single in the pipeline, tours, merch and all sorts of exciting news for you guys. If you thought “Lose The Attitude” was anything to go by, you are in for a huge treat.

Violet

Who has checked out the video for “The Brightside”?? - inspired by living life to the full and not taking anything from granted, the video was produced by the band themselves over a period of 5 months and we think it accompanies the music brilliantly. These guys have got only one plan for the next few months and that is to tour. So we won’t be stopping them. They have lots of dates coming up so you are bound to see them around.

So that’s the band updates done. Keep an eye on our facebook and twitter for daily updates from us and them!

SoccerSix Wrap Up

Tuesday May 15, 2012

So last Friday Small Town entered a team in the Industry tournament for SoccerSix at Leyton Orient FC. We hand picked highly skilled individuals from the Small Town staff and bands to put out what would be a winning team. What we ended up with was something a lot, lot worse….

Small Town FC

Played   4
Won      0
Lost      4
Scored  1
Conc     9

Ref decisions contested: 83
Ref decisions that went our way: 0

We lost in the plate competition semi final to a much stronger looking Kerrang! magazine.

And now, a few awards for the team that tried so hard, but got nowhere:

Gareth Berry wins “Best Player”: Great saves, played every game in full and deserved a better result in at least one game. Did make one foul up, tipping a ball into his own goal.

Alex Berry wins “Worst Player”: (Voted by his team mates) Assisted in at least 5 opposition goals by giving the ball away, or just plainly giving up. Tried to make excuses of “i’ve been wanting a sub - no-one is listening to me” but we all saw the cover up excuses.

Ash Hughes wins “Top Scorer”: Wins award based on scoring our one and only goal, although in fairness came a close 2nd to best player award.

Ben Poliszczuk wins “Unfittest Team Member”: Literally 2mins into the first game was calling for a sub and assistance of medical staff.

Sam Bass wins “Unluckiest Stiker”: Hit the post / side netting / keeper’s head / referees dog / commentator. Everything but the back of the net.

James Power wins “Played Most Like a Headless Chicken”: Turned up 3 hours late, wearing a pink football shirt and head band (all our team were in grey). Got on the pitch and within 30 seconds had given away a penalty.

Dan Page wins “Best Networking”: Used the phrase at least 600 times in a 2 hr period but did make some interesting contacts. Whether he remembered them the next day is still to be seen. Also wins an award for “Worst smelling farts” in team bus.

James Monteith wins “Scruffiest Player”: Not sure Leyton Orients pitch has ever been graced by someone wearing football boots that were only held together by tape.

Josh Coombes wins “Least played like his pre match summary”: Was supposed to play like a Chelsea star. Played like a Chelsea WAG.

Sean Bishop wins “Most played like his pre match summary”: Ran around a lot showing off his tan.

As for coach Pete, well the book falls with him. Wrong team selection, wrong tactics, wrong motivational speeches and wrong substitutions. However, I will remain in charge of Small Town FC for the next tournament and will not be pushed out of this role. I believe this team can achieve something… eventually…

In all seriousness though, a big thanks to all the lads who played, and to SoccerSix for a well organised and enjoyable event. See you next year. (Maybe)

Small Town at Soccer Six Rock - 2012

Wednesday May 9, 2012

On Friday 11th May, history will be made when Small Town puts out its first ever, “official” football team in the Soccer Six 2012 competition, at Leyton Orient FC.

Going head to head, with music industry based teams including the likes of Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, FRONT, and many more, SmallTownPete has carefully assembled his squad of players, ready to meet the challenge. Many players were dissapointed, but here now is the Small Town Squad which will hopefully lift the cup.

Head Coach - Small Town Pete

pete

AKA: Small Town Boss
NOTES: No longer playing due to war wound dating back to days in Vietnam. Will most likely be shouting aggressive orders from touchline and abusing Small Town Alex.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: That Fiorentina football coach, recently sacked for punching a player.
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: ”Hack him down, get the f*ck in to them”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

KEEPER - Gareth Berry

gaz

AKA: Small Town Alex’s Brother
NOTES: Normally found chasing a bit of plastic round and wearing stupid hats. Claims he once kept a clean sheet at St.James’s Park. So he got the nod in goal. Likely to take second most abuse to Small Town Alex.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Tim Krul
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “There is no way that was my fault”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

CAPTAIN / DEFENCE - Small Town Alex

ronk

AKA: Tea Boy at Small Town Records
NOTES: Is captain because it was his idea. More than likely will start the game in good spirit but will no doubt develop some sort of injury that leads to pulling out of the action (i.e burst spleen, bad ribs, damaged ankle, mild headache)
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Darren “Sick Note” Anderton
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Sub please, i’m coming off…”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

DEFENCE / BIG MAN - James Monteith

monteith

AKA: Guitarist from TesseracT / Hold Tight PR / Tallest man in world.
NOTES: Instantly got the nod due to being over 7ft tall and able to take a mans head off with one kick. Will also be probably using his PR skills mid game to distract magazine writers.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Peter Crouch
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Good goal… will you review this record i’m working?”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

DEFENCE - Dan Page

PAGEY

AKA: Member of band in which Small Town Alex plays about.
NOTES: Another big lad - going for solid D-men line here. Last minute call up to action for Pagey but he was more than ready to meet the demands. Plays keyboard in his band. Hope his football skills are less girly.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Elton John
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Its not a keyboard.”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

MIDFIELD - Ash Hughes

ash

AKA: Guitarist of Floods and Proceed
NOTES: We expect big things from this lad. His partnership with co-Floods band member James Power should be wonderful to watch. Poetry in motion they say. Being a new band member, has a lot to prove both on stage, and now importantly on the pitch.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: We don’t know. Yet.
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Power, pass. Pass Power. Pass! Pass! Pass”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

BALL KICKER/RUNNER - James Power

power

AKA: Vocalist of Floods
NOTES: Whoever let this guy play should be shot. His own words: “I’m better at like kicking the ball and then seeing where it goes ad then deciding my next action based on it trajectory. I’m happy to be part of the team, I won’t let you down boss.”
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: A headless chicken
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “which way are we shooting again?”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

UP FRONT - Sean Bishop

sean

AKA: Guitarist in The Hype Theory
NOTES: Pretty sure he spends most of his time running around after Katy Hype Theory, so sure he can hold his own running round a football pitch. Comes from Essex. Watch out for self tan in the locker room.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Robbie “Self Tan” Savage
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “It’s not self tan, i’ve just come back from a holiday”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

UPFRONT - Josh Coombes

josh

AKA: Drummist in The Hype Theory
NOTES: When this guy goes on tour, he has a bag with a Chelsea FC badge on. So therefore we reckon he must be pretty good. If he has a Chelsea FC bag, he must have had trials a few years back with Chelsea. Plays drums. Arms like strings.
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Roberto Di Matteo
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Can I play for another team please?”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

UPFRONT - Ben Poliszczuk

ben

AKA: Ben from Small Town
NOTES: Supports Portsmouth. Used to be a traitor and played for the BSM team. Until we brought him back to where he belongs. Reckons to be quite good. Also reckons he won’t turn up. Question most likely to be asked on the day, “where the hell is Ben?”
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Portsmouth FC (Could have been good, but dissapearing fast and skint)
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “Sorry boys, can’t make it”

—————————————————————————————————————————-

LATE ADDITION - Sam Bass

sam

AKA: Violet guitarist
NOTES: Apparantly is the only member of Violet who can play football. Comes from Derby - was trained by Brian Clough on a Saturday morning. (we think). Got a late call up due to one man dropping out. Still, doesnt take anything away from the lad, he’s got potential. (we think)
PERFORMS MOST LIKE: Derby Legend… erm. That bloke. Who played.
PHRASE MOST LIKELY TO USE: “I came all the way from Derby for this?!”
